Karl Roundy
Karl Roundy passed away on April 10, 2022 with his children by his side.
Karl Roundy passed away on April 10, 2022 with his children by his side. Karl was born in Pennsylvania on April 10, 1960, and he found his way to San Diego nearly 40 years ago. He loved the great outdoors, and taught his kids how to fish, navigate rivers and lakes, camp under the stars, ride their bicycles off-road, and to truly appreciate the simple things in life. Notably, Karl taught his children, Misty Hirsch and Joshua Roundy, to embrace curiosity, and seek out the how’s and why’s of life, which is something they have done throughout their lives. When grandkids entered his life, Karl shared the same enthusiasm for nature and life’s wonders as he had when he was younger.
Karl also spent his life working with his hands. Whether he was building a motorcycle or fixing a Porsche, sketching schematics for a new part, teaching his kids how engines operated, or even crafting skateboards out of scrap metal, he was thoughtful with every project and truly knew his craft. He showed off his skills in various capacities over the last 25+ years as a Federal employee for the Department of the Navy.
At Karl’s request, his children will scatter his ashes in the mountains during a private ceremony. Family, friends, and members of the community are invited to join the Hirsch and Roundy families on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 2:00 pm at North Coast Church (2405 N Santa Fe, Vista, CA 92084) for a celebration of life service.

Our beloved Brandon Ray Barr, 48, of Oceanside, CA, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and son, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022, after a long battle with brain cancer.
Brandon is survived by his loving wife Randi, son Keano, daughter-in-law Amber, grandson Krew Ray, mother Lucinda Barr-Bayless, sister Kristen Terrill and brothers Jake and Jared Rundell, as well as numerous cousins, family and friends who will all miss him more than words can say.

Brandon was born April 12, 1973, to Lucinda Barr-Bayless and Gail Ray Barr Jr. in Anaheim, CA. After Brandon graduated from Lake Havasu High School in 1991, he went to work the family business at Barr Welding and Machine Shop for a few years. His son, Keano Gail Barr, was born in 1994 and was a source of much joy and pride in Brandon's life. In the early 2000s, Brandon moved to Carlsbad, CA, and it was at this time Brandon began his career as a plumbing apprentice.
He would continue to advance in the construction field and eventually start his own contracting business in 2009. His son Keano joined him in the business in 2018 and worked alongside him until his death. Brandon met his wife, Randi, in 2006, and they loved traveling to the Pacific Northwest and being with friends and family. The birth of his grandson, Krew Ray Barr, in 2020 was a light of hope and brought Brandon great happiness during what was a very challenging time.
Brandon was a loyal, helpful friend who could fix or build practically anything. As a classic car enthusiast, he was very proud of his restored 1954 Chevy Bel Air. Brandon was an exceptional general contractor and enjoyed his trade very much. Although he was a man of few words, he was genuinely kind with a huge, compassionate heart, an infectious laugh, warm smile, and a mischievous sense of humor. A truly unique individual, he has left us with a gaping hole in our lives, and his favorite saying rings in our ears: "It's always something.”
Special thank you to the medical team at Scripps and the staff at Hospice of the North Coast for their exceptional compassion and care for Brandon.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Warren Lee Dunn 10/24/1941-3/17/2022
Warren was born in Loma Linda, California in 1941 and spent his young years growing up in several Southern California towns, eventually graduating from Chula Vista High School in 1959. His passion for art began at an early age and continued throughout his life.
After high school he worked to save for college and was eventually juried into California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1970. Warren went on to gain a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1972 from the University of Washington majoring in ceramics, cast metal sculpture and glassblowing. Most of his active military service was spent painting murals and instructing in the post craft shops. He was an active member of the San Diego Potters Guild and the Oregon Potters Association in Portland.
Upon graduation, his teaching career in the “fire arts” disciplines began immediately at Lassen College in Susanville. After three years, he secured a full-time, tenure-track position at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington. Over the next thirty years, Warren developed the programs and taught ceramics, cast metal sculpture, glassblowing, jewelry, stained glass, drawing, design, computer graphics and film studies. Though never having had children of his own, Warren considered all of his students as his kids and mentored them through a myriad of educational and career choices. Beyond his passion for art, Warren enjoyed maintaining and showing his restored 1940 Oldsmobile coupe, 1940 Oldsmobile convertible and 1958 Porsche coupe. He also supported several environmental organizations and animal rights groups.
During a sabbatical year leave to study the ceramic forms and graphics of the Pueblo Indians of New Mexico, Warren attended a local Christmas sing around the wassail bowl gathering and was drawn to an angelic voice that belonged to his soon to be wife, Marcia. Marcia followed Warren up to Vancouver where they began their 27 year marriage.
Upon retirement, Warren and Marcia moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico and for the next six years, bathed in the artistic ambience of the town. However, the arrival of a new step-grand-child in San Diego prompted a move back to Southern California. Settling into the retirement community of Laguna Vista Estates in Oceanside, Warren voluntarily developed the Laguna Vista Clay Club where, for nearly ten years, senior citizen residents have been exploring the rewarding experience of working with clay.
After fighting pancreatic cancer, Warren passed peacefully in the presence of his loving wife. He predeceases his brothers David and Mike and his sister Tarey, two nephews, two step-sons and four step-grand-children. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 on April 30 at the Laguna Vista Clubhouse in Oceanside. Warren wouldn’t want to see anyone in a tie, so please dress comfortably. Warren encourages everyone to contribute to charities that care for animals and Earth’s fragile environment.

It is with heavy hearts that we share; Daniel “Danny” Duran, age 51, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on January 3rd, 2022.
Danny suffered courageously over 3.5 years with an extremely rare neurological disease called CLIPPERS, diagnosed only 5 months prior to his demise. Sadly, he contracted COVID, which accelerated his final days.
Daniel was born on July 30th, 1970, the third child of seven, eldest twin to Juan R. and Rosario Duran in Tijuana, BC. His family moved to Oceanside CA when he was 3 years old which is where he remained throughout his life.
In his early days Daniel was tenacious, energetic, a happy child. He excelled academically and musically. He enjoyed playing basketball and football and he was a proud Oceanside High School Pirate! His days in the school orchestra battling for violin first chair, and the Triple Superior ranked choir were some of his favorite memories.
Daniel married the love of his life Miriam in 1992. Their 29-year marriage was blessed with two wonderful daughters who were the apples of his eye. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, and he was endlessly proud of his daughters. He made sure that each one had every opportunity available to them. He never passed up a chance to cheer for them at games, competitions, and performances. He was a classroom dad and chaperoned many field trips. Daniel ALWAYS chose family over any other activities.
His greatest joys were his family and his Savior Jesus Christ. Daniel loved praising God. Whether it was singing with the worship team or special music at church. His beautiful, strong voice was inspirational. He was a people person who genuinely cared for others. He made many friends along the way. Regardless of where he went, he would undoubtedly run into someone he knew and would spend time catching up or praying with them. He was a steady, strong, faithful, and loving, son, husband, father, brother, tío, and friend. His infectious smile and laugh will live on forever.

Leonard Charles Rosky
Leonard Rosky, age 83 of Oceanside CA passed away after a bout with pneumonia on December 29, 2021.
Leonard Rosky, age 83 of Oceanside CA passed away after a bout with pneumonia on December 29, 2021. Leonard was born on April 27, 1938 as the only child to Polish immigrants in Bronx, NY. Leonard’s Bronx accent and attitude remained with him his entire life.
After graduating high school Leonard enlisted in the National Guard. He was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, where he was trained as a truck driver. His brush with history was in 1957 when President Eisenhower deployed federal troops to help with the integration of Little Rock Central High School of the first African Americans.
While serving in the National Guard, Leonard stayed in the Bronx and began his career with Conard Shipping. He also purchased a beloved 1957 Chevy Belair.
Leonard met the love of his life, Arlene Ann Osterberg while they were both serving in the wedding party of mutual friends. It was love at first sight and they were engaged 6 months after their first meeting and were married shortly after. His love for Arlene was so great that he left his beloved Bronx and they began to raise a family in Weehawken, NJ. As the family grew they moved to Lodi and then to purchasing their own home in Pompton Lakes, NJ. There they successfully raised four boys. Leonard worked hard to support his growing family as a truck driver and proud Teamster member. He primarily drove for Axelrod Dairy, waking early and making deliveries to supermarkets around New York City. He occasionally took his boys as “helpers”, exposing them to the trucker lifestyle, country music and their first cups of coffee. The family often spent their summer vacations camping up and down the East Coast. Leonard was also a fan of the writer Studs Terkel.
After their boys grew up and left home, Leonard retired and he and Arlene followed two of their sons West. They purchased their retirement condominium in Oceanside CA, just a short drive to the Pacific Ocean and the fishing pier. Leonard and Arlene spent their retirement exploring the Western part of the United States. They often took group bus and train excursions exploring the West. One of the highlights was visiting Mount Rushmore. In their later years Lenny and Arlene would spend time on the pier, while Arlene set up a chair and read books, Lenny would fish, but mostly engage the fisherman in conversation and his infamous one-liner jokes.
Leonard is survived by his wife Arlene of Oceanside CA, his four sons William Rosky and his wife Anne Zenger of Juneau AK, Peter Rosky and his wife Tracy Rosky of Wayne, NJ, James Rosky and his wife Sharon Rosky of Oceanside CA and Charles Rosky of West Milford, NJ. He is also survived by grandchildren Thomas Rosky of New York City, NY, John Rosky of Aurora CO, Heather Snyder and Randy Vitello both of Oceanside CA and great granddaughters, Sienna and Scarlet Snyder. Daniel A. Schroepfer
Age, 62, passed away on January 19th of heart and lung failure at his home in Oceanside, CA.
October 7th, 1958 – January 19th, 2021
Age, 62, passed away on January 19th of heart and lung failure at his home in Oceanside, CA. Dan was born to Al and Ramona (Underdahl) Schroepfer at Trinity Hospital in Minot, North Dakota on October 7th, 1958. Dan is preceded in death by grandparents, parents, and baby brother, Richard. Dan is survived by a son, Evan Schroepfer of Maple Grove, MN, a brother, Jeff Schroepfer (Melinda) of River Fall, WI, his loyal little dog, Lola, and many cousins and friends.
For years, Dan dealt with the effects of radiation damage to his heart and lungs caused by treatment he received for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 1987. While the treatment he received 34 years ago cured the cancer and allowed him to go on to have a family, engage in a productive career, travel the world, and make and maintain close friendships, it ultimately took his life. Dan displayed incredible resilience and strength while managing his condition and striving to live life to the fullest, particularly during the past four years.
Dan spent the first four years of this life in Minot, ND before the family moved to Crystal, MN. He attended Neil Elementary School, Sandburg Junior High School, and graduated from Armstrong High School in 1976.
Many hours of Dan’s youth were spent with his dad, Al, and brother, Jeff, in pursuit of building the ultimate go-cart. Test runs were frequently conducted on Idaho Avenue North in Crystal! Throughout his childhood, Dan made many family trips to the Minot, ND area to spend time with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He thoroughly enjoyed the hours spent on his Honda 50 with his brother and cousins on his aunt and uncle’s farm in Ryder, ND. At the age of 12, he developed a love for playing and coaching soccer which continued from junior high school to college and beyond. He was particularly proud of introducing his brother to the game and later coaching his son, Evan’s, youth soccer teams. Dan developed many close relationships through his involvement with soccer and was comforted by these long-lived friendships when his health began to slip.
Dan graduated from the University of Minnesota – Institute of Technology with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1981. He began his professional life at Honeywell in the Military Avionics Division where his team engineered an electronically steerable antenna that was used on the NASA space shuttle fleet and is currently used on the SpaceX Dragon Capsule. Dan and the Honeywell team ultimately obtained a patent for this device. Dan later worked at Polaris, Inc. as a Business and Marketing Manager for the Personal Watercraft Division, at Weber Automotive as a Product Marketing Manager, and at Textron Motors as a Business Development and Marketing Manager. Dan’s career path allowed him to travel extensively around the country and in Europe.
Dan was married to Kathy Veum from October of 1988 to 2007. They made their home in New Hope, MN and later, after the birth of their son Evan, in Mound, MN on Lake Minnetonka. Dan enjoyed living on the lake and pursuing his passion for personal watercraft with friends and family for 20 years.
In 2014, Dan realized a life-long dream of living in southern California by moving with Evan to Orange County and then Oceanside. While there, he and Evan were able to participate in their shared passion for personal watercraft races. They spent many hours working together as a solid racing team: Dan served as the chief mechanic and logistics manager allowing Evan to focus on being a racer.
Dan was a dedicated son, brother, father, and friend who sought excellence for himself and worked tirelessly to foster excellence in others. He will be missed by family and friends in MN, ND, CA, and around the world.
A memorial service will take place at Elim Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale, MN yet this spring: Date and time to be announced. Robert Eugene Stevens, age 93, of Fallbrook, California, passed away January 20, 2021 after a long fight with dementia and a short fight with COVID-19. Bob was born on Dec. 19, 1927 in Battle Creek, Iowa to Ida and Paul Stevens. He studied forestry at Iowa State and, after a summer as a fire lookout in Montana, joined the Air Force. While in the Air Force he became a photogrammetrist. He moved to Washington, D.C. where he married Janet Kleefisch on October 3, 1953. With the purchase of a convertible, Bob and Jan traded in their chilly DC life for a home in Southern California and 60-odd years of sunshine.
Bob was proudly licensed as a professional engineer and after several years working for American Aerial Survey he opened his own business, Robert E. Stevens, & Assoc. in Covina, Ca. He loved running his own business, especially being able to spend time outdoors and allowing time in the schedule for an afternoon nap.
Bob loved a good joke and a cold beer. He loved walking through the forest and sharing the scientific name of each tree. He loved going to the casino and traveling the world, filling his house with treasures from his travels. But mostly he loved his children, his grandchildren, and his dogs.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Jan. He is survived by his children Tamara Homnick of Hickory Corners, MI, Ronald Stevens of Concord, CA, Marta Baker of Solana Beach, CA, and Rebecca Solander of Fallbrook, CA, as well as 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He often exceeded his sales goals, and even won a grand prize trip to the World’s Fair. During a vacation to San Diego in 1969, Gary toured The San Diego Union-Tribune. He spontaneously applied for a job and was hired on the spot! At the UT, he continued to excel in advertising sales and was eventually promoted to managerial positions in both the display and classified advertising departments. Gary loved his career at the Union Tribune and was a beloved employee there for 35 years.
Gary met the love of his life while working at the Union Tribune. They married in 1985. He was happily married to Linda Jenerette for 35 years. His daughter, Lisa Jenerette, resides in El Paso, Texas. Her sons, Zachary and Joshua, enjoyed spending time with their grandpa on their visits to California.
