Mary A. Bartizal
Mary Angelina (Cangelosi) Bartizal, aged 92 years, peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at a beautiful hospice home in Escondido, CA.
Mary had been at resident of the Remington Club in Rancho Bernardo for over 20 years. Prior to that, she lived in San Diego Country Estates in Ramona, CA and in North Riverside, IL alongside her late husband, Ken F. Bartizal Sr.
Born in Chicago, IL, on June 27, 1931, Mary was the youngest sibling of four in the Cangelosi family (Rose, Sam, Josephine and Mary) and was affectionally known within the family as “Babe”. She was preceded in death by her husband Ken F. Bartizal Sr., her parents, Salvatore and Caroline (Barranco) Cangelosi, as well as siblings Rose (John) Oklicz, Sam (Dorothy) Cangelosi and brother-in-law Albert Lang Sr. and nephew Albert Lang Jr and nieces Carol (Cangelosi) Doherty and Joanne (Cangelosi) Bratka. Remarkably, Mary passed away just six hours before her sister Josephine (Cangelosi) Lang who also passed away the same day on December 9th.
In 1985, Ken Sr. retired from his 39 year career at Western Electric in Cicero, IL, and he and Mary moved from North Riverside, IL to build their dream home in San Diego, CA. They took great pride in constructing their new residence in the San Diego Country Estates in Ramona, CA. In a harmonious and energetic manner, they enthusiastically engaged in landscaping, gardening, and entertaining at their splendid home. Mary was known for being a superb cook and her recipes were sought after by friends, family and serve to memorialize her legacy.
Following 20 years in Ramona, Mary and Ken Sr. relocated to New Jersey to be near their son Ken Jr. and daughter-in-law Dawn. After Ken Sr. passed away, Mary led a very independent and active life in NJ, forming friendships effortlessly. Her dream however was to return to San Diego and that became a reality in 2007 when Mary, Ken Jr. and Dawn moved to San Diego. She then moved into the Remington Club in Rancho Bernardo where she continued her independent and active social life and was proverbially known by many there as the “Mayor” of “The Club”.
Surviving is her son, Ken F. Bartizal, Jr and daughter-in-law Dawn M. Bartizal of Bend, OR. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christopher Bartizal, his wife Jennifer Nottage of Carmel, IN and Angela Bartizal Ramos and her husband Nick Ramos of Pittstown, NJ. Additionally, Mary leaves behind three great-grandchildren (Desmond Bartizal, Abigail Bartizal, and Nicholas Ramos), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in Chicago, IL, and Cefalu, Italy.
A memorial and interment for Mary Bartizal will be private.
