JACQUELYN MELIND (ADAMS) LANDIS, 87, long-time resident of Vista and Lake San Marcos, CA, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.

Jacquelyn Landis is survived by her husband of over 59 years, Henry Alexander Landis, four sons (and their spouses), Brett (Melissa), Scott (Chikage), Kipp (Charee), and Blake (Ashleigh), 11 grandchildren, Shayne, Quintt, Tristan, Jett, Chase, Charlotte, Madison, Kian, Bronn, Cash, and Sky, and her two siblings, Barbara (Adams) Ehrenborg and Scott Adams.

Jacquelyn was born on June 10, 1932, in Tampa, FL. She was the daughter of Bradford Moseley Adams and Ernestina Dora (Friedman) Adams. In 1960, she married Henry A. Landis, and they shared 60 wonderful years together.

Jacquelyn grew up in the New York City area. Shortly after graduating high school, she moved to California and worked as a secretary for Bekins Van and Storage. It was while riding a bicycle in Mission Beach that she met Henry. That night on their first date, they visited the cross at Mount Soledad. On June 16, 1960, a few months after that first date, they were married.

Jacquelyn and Henry started a family, moved to Vista where Henry taught high school, and she devoted herself to raising their four boys. As a family they would regularly go camping and take self-guided driving tours throughout the United States. Jacquelyn was artistically gifted and a voracious reader. As a hobby, she made painted ceramics and loved completing the New York Times crossword puzzles.

After Henry retired, they resided in Big Bear Lake and Silver Lakes. In 2010 they moved back to North County, settling in Lake San Marcos.

More than anything in this world Jacquelyn loved her husband, siblings, children and grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy than the time she spent with each of them. Family and friends all loved Jacquelyn for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and care for others. Her sense of humor and ability to warm everyone around her with her smile and youthful face will be missed.

A memorial service is planned for January 20, 2020, for family and close friends. For information, please contact Scott Landis (scottalandis@hotmail.com).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jacquelyn’s name to Wounded Warrior Project (http://HonorWarriors.org) or to your local family care organization for the elderly.
